Mrs Joan Fahy

Secretariat

Joan is involved with the broader global NTD partnership activities and is the lead, since 2004, for the Secretariat of the Global Alliance to Eliminate Lymphatic Filariasis which has a diverse and large number of international partners that support GAELF.

Since April 2015 Joan has been working with a new initiative, LSTM NTDs (Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine Neglected Tropical Diseases). LSTM NTDs aims to bring together LSTM’s extensive NTD portfolio by establishing a robust institutional identity, which will be vigorously marketed within the NTD and broader global health community.

International advocacy at many levels has resulted in recognition of the importance and benefits of addressing a package of neglected tropical diseases on an integrated platform. To progress this, partner support for activities is increasing as is the pharmaceutical commitment of donated drugs. This has been particularly enhanced since the 2012 London Declaration (link is external) and further endorsed in Paris in 2014.  LSTM NTDs will work to build on this increased support for NTDs.

Previously working with the Centre for Neglected Tropical Diseases since it was established in 2000 Joan was responsible for the partnership and advocacy activities and project management of two of CNTD’s country implementation projects (Malawi and Tanzania – including Zanzibar).

She represents LSTM NTDs on the UK Coalition Against NTDs, the UK All Party Parliamentary Group on Malaria and NTDs, the NGDO Network for NTDs and Uniting to Combat NTDs including on a number of their sub-groups.
